With BMW deciding to leave the sport at the end of the 2009 season Robert Kubica will replace Fernando Alonso as Renault’s star driver from next year, and we no longer have to worry about Robert not finding a competitive seat for next year. Now that Alonso has made his decision to join Ferrari, all the pieces of the 2010 grid puzzle are falling into place. Hailed by many as one of the most naturally talented drivers of his generation Kubica will take good memories of recording the team’s sole grand-prix win at Montreal last year. Toyota was rumored to have expressed their interest in Kubica as well but the final bid has gone Renault’s way. Renault still hasn’t confirmed the team’s second driver. Renault as well as Kubica seemed equally delighted with the signing.
I am very happy I will be joining Renault in the 2010 season,” said Kubica. “I feel I have a special connection with this team because in 2005 I won the World Series by Renault. This gave me the chance to test with the team in Barcelona, which led to my debut in Formula One”.
