That the all new 2013 Skoda Octavia is headed our way has always been a known fact. Now, it has emerged that the latest generation of the Skoda Octavia might commence its Indian innings sometime during Diwali season this year. It may be noted that the Diwali season has always been favoured by automaker for launching their new products in India. This is due to the fact that the festive season is considered auspicious for buying new vehicle and the auto market always witnesses an increase in sales figures at this time of the year.

The Czech automaker is betting big on the new Octavia and word is out that the latest edition of the popular D segment sedan looks all set to up the ante in the very competitive mid-size sedan segment. The new Octavia is based on the much publicized MQB platform that underpins quite a few Volkswagen group cars. It is being said that the 2013 Octavia will be sold along with the Laura (the last gen Octavia) until Skoda India comes up with entry level variants of the new Octavia to replace the Laura.

The 2013 Octavia is considerably larger than the Laura and various auto publications are of the opinion that the car is almost as big as the Skoda Superb flagship sedan. This means that the new Octy, in all probability, would be half a shoe size larger than the Chevrolet Cruze, the new Hyundai Elantra and the Volkswagen Jetta.

The 2013 Skoda Octavia is expected to go on sale in India with a 1.8 TSI turbo petrol and a 2.0 TDI turbo diesel engine. An entry level 1.6 Liter TDI turbo diesel engine might also join the bigger engines at a later stage.

While the new Octavia will be costlier than the Laura, the car might come across as a more value for money proposition due to its newer technology and a bigger equipment list.
