With majority car sales coming from the lower segments, small cars have always been instrumental in the growth of Indian car bazaar. A report by SIAM shows that 4 out of 5 largest selling cars in the year 2012 are hatchbacks and things don’t seem to be changing anytime soon.
Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 has once again emerged at the top of the annual sales chart. However, the Tata Nano has been featured in the top 10 for the first time in its career. There is now no doubting the fact that the various upgrades being carried by the 2012 Nano have paid off well. Hyundai Eon too makes an entry in to the coveted top 10. The only sedan to make an appearance in the top 10 is the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and is one of the top four cars in the list. All these four cars are from Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.
We won’t be too surprised to find the Nano featuring in the top 5 next year. What with the Nano diesel close to being launched.
