We recently reported in detail when the production version of the BMW i8 sportscar was spotted undergoing road tests on pubic-roads. Now, a production version of the BMW i3 Megacity vehicle has been spotted testing in Beijing.

The i3 will be BMW’s first-ever all-electric production car and the car is expected to be launched sometime later this year.

The i3 Concept Coupé made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show last December.  The i3 Concept Coupé is basically a four-seater that measures 3,964 millimeters in length, 1,555 mm in height and 1,768 mm in width.  There are very good chances that the production spec i3 would look much like the concept version that we saw earlier.

It is being said that the BMW i3 will have a range of around 80-100 miles and powering the car will be a new high-voltage lithium-ion battery whose energy output is less prone to be affected by temperature changes.  The electricals on the i3 will also use less energy as compared to the conventional systems. All this will lead to a 30% energy saving.

One of the highlights of the BMW i3 will be the inclusion of BMW i ConnectedDrive services.  This system is specially designed for BMW eDrive technology and helps the driver in getting an idea of the car’s range prior to the start of a trip.

The i3 is also likely to get a rooftop and carport photovoltaic system that will be supplied to BMW by Solarwatts. The system will enable the vehicle to charge and also contribute power to the household.
