After a lot of coaxing and badgering from desi Bulleteers, ‘the’ (pronounced thie) bullet of all Bullets, the 500 EFi classic will make its entry into the domestic market next month. The bike sports the classic ‘doodhwala’ looks, along with the ‘50s popular body-paint, exposed rear springs, analog dials and a single saddle. The 500 EFi features a unit construction engine (UCE), which is a first for any bullet. This means that unlike other bullets, the cutch and the gearbox are housed into the crankcase itself, reducing transmission losses and thankfully, lesser maintenance issues. It also gets FI tech which will be a big boon for all those wannabe ‘Raid Bikers’. With a healthy and very accessible 27.2 bhp on tap, we expect good turn of speed from this one. The 500 LB lost out by a pretty slim margin to the Pulsar 220 in the top speed stakes, when we set about verifying Bajaj’s claims of ‘Fastest Indian’ in the September issue of the Motoroids2 magazine. It seems like the 220’s reign is going to be short-lived.
