Honda plant labour unrest ends! News | | October 30, 2009 at 5:54 am

The infamous labour dispute at the Honda Motorcycle & Scooters India plant finally came to an end yesterday (29th October). The three month old workers agitation ended with the signing of a new wage agreement between the workers union and the company management. Gurgaon’s deputy labour commissioner, G.S.Thakur, said that the new agreement  specifies that their fixed wages will be stable for the next three years irrespective of HMSI’s performance, besides other perks.

According to the terms of the new wage agreement workers will be entitled to performance based incentives along with a fixed basic pay of Rs.4,400 per month. Till July this year the workers would earn around Rs.2,900 under the earlier agreement that was signed in August 2006. The automobile manufacturer has also added a third assembly line at its motorcycle  manufacturing plant. HMSI is expecting to achieve production of around 4,700 two-wheelers everday once it becomes operational from the coming Tuesday ( 4th November 2009).
