Yesterday we reported that Tata might be working in collaboration with recently acquired Jaguar Land Rover for the development of a comprehensively updated Tata Sumo Grande. The sketches showed that the 2014 Tata Sumo Grande might come with a facelift that would be distinctively reminiscent of that of the very famous Land Rover Evoque.
It may be noted that the JLR acquisition has to be one of the best things that have happened to Tata Motors in modern times. We have been anticipating JLR effect to soon start showing up on the Tata cars. Recently, a set of sketches started doing rounds on the web world. It is being said that these sketches belong to the design process of Tata Sumo Grande. While we were happy to learn that Tata might be working on giving the Grande a new face that is inspired from the Evoque, we did feel that there might be something fishy about the sketches.
Thanks to some help from one of our dear readers, we got to know that these sketches belong to the Tata Safari Storme design process. On a close inspection of the video, we found that the sketches that are being touted as Sumo Grande facelift design ideations actually belong to the initial phases of the Safari Storme’s design development.
(Skip to 55 secs. mark of this video clip to check out these sketches)
What you see in the lead image is a screenshot of the said video. On comparing it with the sketches you see in yesterday’s article, you will realize that the news of Sumo facelift drawing inspiration from the Evoque is nothing but a hoax.
