Mahindra launches the Gio

Mahindra and Mahindra has launched a new vehicle today, christened the ‘Gio’! The Gio will boast of being the one four-wheeled half-tonner compact truck in production in India today and hence, it targets the lucrative 3-wheeler commercial vehicle industry. The Gio is powered by a 441.5cc single cylinder 4-speed direct-injection diesel engine producing 9.1 bhp @ 3,600 rpm and 21 Nm between 2,000-2,400 rpm.  The BSII variant will cost Rs. 1.65-lakh (ex-showroom) while the BSIII variant will attract an extra Rs. 3,000.

Dr. Pawan Goenka, President of Mahindra Automotive said, “With the launch of Mahindra Gio, we have created a new Compact Truck category in the commercial vehicle segment. The Mahindra Gio is the first of its kind entry level 4 wheel cargo vehicle, and is all set to change the dynamics of the small CV segment. As city limits gradually expand and distribution needs increase, the Mahindra Gio presents a high earning potential for customers who will benefit from its high mileage, low maintenance cost, optimum utilization of space and low acquisition cost.”
