Maruti Suzuki is surely laughing to banks with sales of Ertiga mini MPV soaring to all time highs. We keep hearing of waiting periods for the diesel models of the new car extending to as much as half a year and we won’t be surprised if the new MPV from Maruti manages to outsell the highly popular Dzire.

The Ertiga is also on sale in Indonesia, where it is available with only the 1.4 Litre K-Series petrol engine. The Ertiga could soon get an automatic gearbox in the Indonesian market and if rumours are to be believed, India too will get an option for the auto ‘box with the mini MPV. Not much is known about the new gearbox but we can safely expect it to be a 4 speed deal. That means that it might be the same gearbox that is available on the SX4 automatic. It may be noted that Indian car market is fast warming up to the idea of automatic cars and if launched, Ertiga Automatic will become the only MPV, this side of Mercedes Benz R Class, to offer an option of automatic transmission.
