News » Proton coming to India in 2011?
According to moneycontrol.com, the Malaysian car-maker Proton is ready to enter the Indian market sometime next year. No JV's, no partners this time, they have opted to play solo.
The report suggests that they might assemble the cars at Deawoo's old plant at Surajpur under contract basis. Their portfolio will have 3 cars namely Saga, Savvy and Exora. Saga is a sedan while Savvy is a hatcback and Exora is an MUV. Proton is re-engineering the cars for the Indian market and they are sourcing a diesel engine too. Though no official confirmation regarding this has been made.
BVR Subbu, former Hyundai India President was appointed by Proton earlier this year and now, if the reports are to be believed, will head Proton's Indian venture.
We will update you as soon as we get to hear anything. Please check the images of the three India-bound cars in the gallery below. Stay tuned for more info.
Its a good news that the international car manufacturers are intervening the Indian market. Proton saga looks very promising, lets see how well it does on road.
