Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is developing 15 truck terminals at its properties spread across the state, as a part of a strategic plan to significantly enhance its scope of service offerings and provide comprehensive industrial solutions. In its first phase, seven truck terminals will be set up in the next 18- 24 months. The sites identified for these are- Latur, Patalganga, Chakan, Taloja, Waluj, Talegaon and Ranjangaon.

The modern, international class Truck Terminals will be equipped with a complete range of facilities including spacious parking, warehousing, loading/unloading, boarding/lodging for drivers, AIDS counselling centres and medical facilities, public toilets, eateries, etc. Additional facilities like vehicle servicing, fuel supply and other support infrastructure services are also on the anvil. These terminals will also act as logistic centre for goods, warehousing, inter-modal transport, container transport and freight forwarding services.

Commenting on the pressing need for the new truck terminals, Dr. K. Shivaji, CEO, MIDCsaid, “The road transport network is a virtual lifeline for trade, industry and the common man. In Maharashtra alone we transport millions of tonnes of precious cargo to their destinations daily traversing the length and breadth of the state. It is very critical, that this transport network which is the wheel of economic prosperity for the state moves like a well oiled machine. The truck terminal project is thus important ingredient to maintain an unhindered supply-chain. “

What we have here, are the first pics of Volkswagen’s newly re-designed 2012 Beetle, spied in the U.S by the folks at Autoblog.com. From the pics, the new Beetle looks more like the classic Beetle, a little less bubbly and a little less feminine. The roofline has lost its perfect arc, bringing a more aggressive look to the new Beetle; the hood seems to have been stretched and the windshield stands a bit more upright than the current Beetle. However, the headlights, tail-lights, front and rear styling remain unchanged from the current VW Beetle.

Under the hood, the engine specs are likely to read a 2.5 litre Inline- five or a 2.0 TDI motor. But according to sources within Volkswagen, the next- gen Beetle is expected to don a powerful engine- something which you can take to a race track; as reported by Autoblog.com. The car is expected to make its first public appearance in Detroit or Geneva Auto Show to be held in the first quarter of next year.

Update 2 (22nd September 2010):

Left Lane News has now got their hands on the interior shots too of the 2012 Civic! The new dashboard, as seen in the pics, is an evolution of the current model’s dash. It still follows the same stacked up design for the digital speedo and tacho with a blue back-light theme. The major difference however comes in the form of the new ‘centre’ console which is now tilted towards the diver in a bid to attain better ergonomics. The passenger too gets a pair of A/C vents tilted towards the passenger seat. The steering mounted controls too have a new design, as can be seen in the spy pics.

Thanks to the swanky blokes at Carscoop, who have somehow got hold of the first interior shots of the four upcoming models from Chevrolet- the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback, 2011 Chevrolet Captiva SUV, 2011 Chevrolet Aveo and the 2011 Chevrolet Orlando MPV. All four models are set for its international debut at the upcoming Paris Auto Show. Chevrolet had unveiled the first pics of all the four new models in the past two weeks. However, they were nothing more than a mere ‘peek-a-boo’ shots of the exterior of their 2011 line up. In the pages which follow, we bring you the cabin shots of all the four new cars.

Oh, and a new promotional video involving the new 2011 Chevrolet Aveo is also reported to go live soon. So, stay tuned and we shall bring you the latest updates on that front as soon as we get our hands on it.

Our sources close to Skoda have confirmed that the 2010 Fabia facelift will be launched on the 24th of September 2010. Skoda India is readying the media cars and test drive vehicles. The media cars are expected to reach most magazines later in a day or two while the test drive vehicles will be at the showrooms by the 21st of this month. Stay tuned to Motoroids as we bring you more info on the pricing as soon as it is available to us.

Update (August 04, 2010):
The latest update from our sources about the 2010 Skoda Fabia facelift is that the petrol variant has finished the homologation procedure. The diesel version should finish the process in another week. We’ll try to get you the fuel efficiency figures soon…

The blokes at Team-Bhp have caught the Volkswagen Passat CC test mule doing its test rounds around the Mumbai-Pune expressway. We had seen this car roaming around in Pune with a yellow license plate, however, the one seen here is running the ‘red’ temporary plates. The CC is a compact coupe based on the Volkswagen Passat but looks quite different with an aggressive front and tail as compared to the drab Passat.

Volkswagen India will look forward to cash in on the CC’s design and garner some healthy sales figures as compared to the Passat, which hasn’t taken off all that well in our market. We expect the CC to be priced between the Rs. 27-30-lakh territory which will bring it freakishly close to the Mercedes Benz C-class territory. We expect the car to launch by Diwali 2010, approximately the same time when the deliveries of the VW Vento commence.

In yet, another fascinating and incredibly insane chatter we heard of, comes form the great white north- Canada; where the officials are experimenting with a new speed control concept. Now apparently, a painted optical illusion of a little girl chasing a little pink ball in traffic will be drawn on the streets instead of the traditional hump to break your speed.

The first creepy 2D pavement painting of the little girl is placed near a school in Vancouver. To describe briefly, about this terrifying and mind exploding experience- the girl’s elongated form appears to rise from the ground as cars approach, reaching a 3D realism at around 100 feet and then returns to a 2D distortion once the cars passes that ideal viewing distance.

Well, the new concept is truly brilliant, we must say… If you come from a city where no one is fond of little kids! Driving over a kid, though a fake one, is creepy. And more importantly, this concept doesn’t even seem to be better than the regular concrete bumps. The second time the driver comes across the kid’s illusion, he ain’t slowing down, as he knows the little creepy trick of a fake kid. Or worse, one can mistake a real kid for a projected one and could run him over! This kind of concept could work… But only once!

And on a second thought… Are kids still playing in the middle of busy streets?

Visual highlights of the new Aveo includes the aggressive looking front with its exposed twin- headlamps and dual port grille, compact taut body panels with a rising shoulder line and short rear overhangs and ‘hidden’ rear door handles. The new Aveo also features ESC and ABS brakes as standard and the new model is also longer and wider than the current model. Inside the new Aveo, the most striking feature is the motorcycle- inspired instrument cluster which houses an analogue tachometer combined with a digital speedo and warning lights. Up- market blue backlight features on the centre console while the front cabin is enveloped in wrap- round fascia. There is also plenty of storage space in the centre stack and features an audio system with USB, aux- in and Bluetooth functionality.

A comprehensive range of four cylinder petrol and diesel engines will be housed in the new Aveo RS. The petrol range includes a 1.2 litre (at 86 hp) version and 1.4 litre (at 100 hp) unit. And for the first time, Aveo will be offered with two versions of a 1.3 litre diesel engine (at 75 hp and at 95 hp) featuring Start/Stop technology. Manual transmission of 5 or 6 speed will be available based on engine choice and Chevrolet’s first 6- speed automatic transmission on a small car will feature on the Aveo 1.4 as an option in most markets.

The 2011 Chevrolet Aveo will hit the Europeam market in May 2011 and thereafter in the Indian market. No information on pricing has been revealed yet.

The Brit bombshell was spotted in Paris, suited up in beige with matching helmet and boots; onboard a Ducati Supersport 750 custom painted in beige (!) for a new perfume advertisement from Chanel. Now, we know most of you guys out there, would have loved to see Keira wrapped in tight black latex on a hot red Ducati; but nonetheless, its Keira Knightly in a cat suit; so we thought you might like this beige ensemble too!
