I had a nice 100/90 halogen installed on the ZMA. I need to get a similar or better beam quality on the P220.

From what i understand from Doc Arnob, i can easily swap the stock 55w bulbs for the 100/90 ones.

My concern is, that i should not end up burning the wiring harness, and thus voiding the warranty...

Anyone has done this before???

from what i know there is no point in putting in a 100/90 ones .because the voltage supplied to it will still be the one that is required to run the 55w bulbs.

alternatives:
>obviously :HID

> get your coil rewinded to support the higher wattage.

and about the system taking the load. I doubt it can. but on a rewinded coil , usually they change the wires also to a higher ampere ones.

but then still : 220 = already the best lighting on Indian bikes .  more ?? :)

Actually an easier way out is to replay the harness, and add a relay. that ways, it can easily run a 100w at full power.
Had this on my ZMA and worked like a charm...

The P220 lights are good, but not good enough for the highway...

sorry, that should have read as
"replace the harness, and add a relay so that the new higher guage harness can handle more loads"

oh ok..
>> by harness you mean the wiring harness right ? that means the entire wiring kit or only  the wires pertaining to the headlight. ?

>>and could you also tell me the how/what the function of a relay is ?

Not very sure. But it includes the headlight wiring for sure. The existing wires go into the relay, which then turns on and off the bulbs.
So simply put, the existing wires now power the relay, instead of the bulb, and the new wires power the bulb.

That link is a really informative one. Thanks :)

I have seen people with dual HID's on the 220. I mean both the low and high with HID and the wiring done in such a way that when its necessary both the low and  the high work together. HID's are..well not cheap. But the prices have come down a lot. a H7 HID should cost you Rs 2500/- with warranty and Rs 1800 without warranty, and sticking to the 4300K ones you are safe from the cops also.

instead of spending on HIDs and riding around blinding others(and also irritating the pandus!!:)), plonk in a relay and put better bulbs like Osram Silverstar,Nightbreaker or the mighty Philips Rally 100/110. I am using the Rally 100/110 setup in my car and it sure is total VFM @175rs/bulb

I thought I was the only one !

I too would like much brighter headlights on the 220 , but not very inclined toward HID due to the slow switch time that inhibits flashing or quick changes between high and low .

Hrishi, if you do get this done , do let me know the cost of wiring change & labour . One thing I'm apprehensive of is the electronic rigging in the 220 . I'm told the BCU is rather touchy and does give problems if the current is significantly more or less than ~4A that a 55W bulb requires .

Other thing is quite a few people have reported the lens in front of the high beam cracking from the inside , perhaps due to the heat , and this is with a stock 55W bulb . I know of 80W H7s , not sure if 100W H7 bulbs also exist . I'm already using Osram Silverstars , but always looking for better lighting .

@Motormania , which car ? Seems your car uses H4 bulbs , 220 requires H7 .

Ricci: Willdo.
Am planning to get this done at the service center itself, so that there are no warrenty issues. If i manage to get this done, will let you know too...

@avin: No HID's - too expensive, and the cheaper ones are not reliable.

@motormania: I had the Philips Rally setup on my palio, for all four beams.
That sure was lovely lighting when i turned on all the lights... almost perfect :)

Hrishi its simple plug & play :)

The issue that you might face is not pertaining to the wiring / electrica's, but is more towards the headlamp lens which might tend to fade down / crack on sustained usage.

This has to be reviewed regularly & corrective action need to be initiated accordingly :)

So I just plug in the 100w bulb in place of the existing one?
Also, if you don't mind, what would be an approx cost of the lens?

Thanks Venkat!
