Nissan have today officially announced their Sunny sedan for India. Also known as the Micra based sedan, or the V platform sedan, the new car will take the fight to the likes of the Suzuki SX4. The car will be powered by a new 1.5-liter gasoline engine.

Mumbai, August 3, 2011: Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) today unveiled its premium vehicle offering for the mid size segment in India - the new Nissan ‘SUNNY’. The new saloon will hit the market in the next few months to coincide with the festive season.

The  name SUNNY has been iconic with the Japanese automobile company for the  past 45 years since the vehicle’s first launch in 1966. The 10^th Generation Nissan SUNNY is  based on the popular V- (Versatile) platform, the one used in the  Nissan Micra. The car has been designed and fine-tuned to meet different  tastes and needs of customers beyond its market segmentation in both  developed markets and emerging markets like US, China and India. It will  appeal to a wide range of buyers, including professionals and families  with a young mindset.

The vehicle’s exterior design offers a  refreshing design character that is both sophisticated and aerodynamic.  Its design is the epitome of energetic and sleek lines with sculpted and  dynamic proportions that offer the sedan a very upscale look. Frontal  design cues like the new Nissan signature grille and the jewel like  headlights enhance the overall chic look of the vehicle while sporty and  smooth silhouette is the theme for the side profile of the car.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, M.D. & CEO, Nissan Motor India said, “The unveiling of the iconic Nissan SUNNY  today reinstates our seriousness on business operations in India. It  reiterates that we are as per schedule on our Indian plans including  future product launches. The vehicle will offer more  value to the discerning customer and carve out a niche amidst  competition in the fast growing Indian automobile market.

Speaking on the growing Nissan product porfolio, Mr. Dinesh Jain, CEO, Hover Automotive India said, “Unveiling of Nissan SUNNY  today could not have been at a better time than this. We have built a  robust chain of 40 dealerships nationwide in a period of over one year  and we are on schedule to open up 100 dealerships by end of 2012. With a  bigger product range now, we will be able to cater to a diverse genre  of customers who would be enriched with the Nissan experience in the  years to come. PRODUCT ATTRIBUTES

Nissan  SUNNY is a premium saloon car, which has been designed at Nissan Design  and Nissan Motor Co Ltd headquarters in Japan along with inputs from  170 countries where it would be sold worldwide. It made its global debut  at the 8th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition in  December 2010.

The petrol variant of the Nissan SUNNY will be manufactured at the Renault Nissan alliance Orgadam facility in Chennai.

Nissan  has unveiled its new sedan for India. The company has kept the name of  the car as Sunny only, for India. Earlier, it was speculated that the  company may change the name for the Indian market. The car looks exactly  the same as the Sunny sedan in the international market.

Also, Nissan has revealed that it has started producing the Sunny in India (Source: Motoroids). Renault and Nissan are sharing the Chennai production facility.
Impressively, they have managed to achieve 85% localization on the Sunny before it has even hit the showrooms, should help them to compete on price.

Did see the mules before launch here in Chennai and they were impressive. I could not keep up with them even in my CRDI. Hope this model keeps the cash registers ringing for the company. They need to have their dealer network in place though........

Totally agree.
Their website lists only one dealer in Chennai (surprising, since they are based in Chennai) and only two in Bombay. Not enough.
Nissan India is working with a wierd strategy of focusing more on exports till their dealer network is up (they export more Micras than they sell here).
Lets hope they do not miss the bus and lose out to newer entrants like VW (which entered India a couple of years after Nissan) who seem much more committed.

The more upmarket dials on the fully loaded model should have been made standard across the range. Reminds me of small cars where tachometers are available only in top spec models. And then, the ORVMs on all models do not have indicators which seems to be a sign of Nissan deliberately omitting them to launch them as a new feature once they have to launch a facelifted version few years down the line.

The new Nissan Sunny sedan car is launched in Indian auto market with both the petrol & diesel engine in price range of from 5.9 lac to 6.9 lac. Nissan Sunny has shining exterior and eye-catching interior. It is the first time Sunny is offered with a K9K Diesel engine. The K9K engines are proved to deliver better power and torque figures. The safety provision includes front dual airbags, ABS  with EBD and brake assist, front disc brake, halogen headlamps, front fog lamps. The braking system is made more powerful with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic BrakeForce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). Now after the grand success of its manual transmission Nissan Sunny is going to launch its automatic transmission in 2013 with the expected price hike of Rs. 80,000 from the current version. It is also heard that this will be launching only with the petrol engine.
