Aha so I should watch this thread. Do update about the 7100 , I don't see it in Pune, so I used 300V FL. What's the 7100's price ? It is FS but I think it is not what they call double ester, whereas the 300V is. At 900 a litre, it's a bit of a pinch.

Will update on the performance post Saturday.

Got it for a discounted price of 725, the MRP is 775 i think.

I think you're right on the double ester. But what is the difference? Is the 300v more refined?
I like 'em Naked.

300v is 15w50 and is the more popular Motul oil. Why? I dont know :P

Danke ! I don't know what makes it superior either, but all along I have heard only raving reviews of the 300V. I haven't seen a 7100 so I don't know its chemical composition, but from what I barely remember, esters are aromatic compounds with cyclic carbon rings, maybe that gives it more breaking strength ( shear tolerance ) ? But I'm nothing close to being a petroleum expert ! 775 MRP, so price diff is INR 100, not that huge.

I read on forums about amateur racers using 300V FL, not sure if professional racers like WSBK and MotoGP also use these same oils ( as commercially sold ) - I think not, race oils are typically thinner for lower pumping losses.

Ricci,

I have a review for you. But it is a bit flawed. Since it was my first service, a lot of the characteristics could be attributed to post-run-in than exclusively to the oil.

For whatever it is worth,
The engine is definitely smoother, sounds less gruff.
Revs do build up quicker.
Gearshifts are also much better.
Lost a bit of engine braking, very slight though.
I like 'em Naked.

@NikhilB :
thanks for the update ; however, this is what happens on every oil change ! A change of fresh oil typically gets noticable improvement in smoothness and gearshifts. I'll wait for a longer term feedback , how the oil fares over 2000-5000km.
300V doesn't quite stretch beyond 5000-6000km , so I typically change by 5000km. Currently on 5100 for trial , will probably go back to 300V or 7100 later.

i believe you are talking about KTM DUKE as you have previously mentioned , i have just booked Duke while contemplating for a long time to decide between CBR & DUKE.
Some members specially Arn and pulsurge were of great help to me in this matter :) so thanks to all who helped me out in this important matter.

Now i have this confusion about many people talking about  engine oil change at 50  or 100 or 500 kms, everyone please suggest me what to do regarding it also if Engine oil change is good  before first service what benefit it brings and which oil should be used.
I do remember arn recommending oil change at 50km, someone else at 250 if i my memory serves its purpose and so many posts reading is not affecting my grey cells ;)
I have read this entire post and people recommends 300V the most but ktm suggests 20w50  if i am right so which oil to be used.

Off this topic but i thoroughly enjoyed the leg pulling at post of DUKE vs CBR between Satyenpoojari, L.P. and pulsurge so much so that it played a important decision in me choosing CBR as well as Arn's replies also the humour still makes me read those posts again and again :)

I'd recommend avoiding 300V at least during the warranty period, since it is not available in the recommended 20w50 grade.

Would let others comment on the early oil changes, as I had followed the manufacturer's schedule blindly.

Ricci,
If you're around, the oil feels as new even after putting more than 3k kms on it.
Gearshifts and engine smoothness have not changed much since the oil change.
Any particular thing you're looking for as a feedback on the oil?
I like 'em Naked.

I guess the 300V comes in two varieties i.e. Factory Line and Racing.

:D - I have used 4 oils on the Ninja so far

the original stock oil - Loved it. Am told its some Kawasaki Oil that is shipped with the Engine. Detergent based, specifically meant for "Running in"

The DTSI Oil - Didnt wait for an opinion to  be formed. Junked it. It was decent to be honest

The Motul 7100 - Fantastic Lube. Traffic performance improved. Gear shifts were smooth.

The Shell 20W50 (something something) Had to use it as an urgent measure. Ninja owners in south (Chennai) swear by it
I on the other hand didnt find it as good as the Motul. It was cheaper, but it died sooner. The shifts were better, it helped the mielage a bit, BUT it ensured that the radiator turned on too often in traffic conditions

*Phew*
