Apparently Peugeot are in a hurry. News reports say that they will launch the 508 as a CBU (import) in 2012.

Both petrol and diesel variants could be launched. Speculated to come at Rs. 18-22L.
More details are expected at the Auto Expo.

Yes...
You can see that they have temp registration numbers.
The cars are probably undergoing testing or are used to ferry peugeot officials.
PS: Peugeot has made clear its plans to enter the Indian market. They hae started building a factory in Gujarat (which could be ready by 2014)

(Google image search would help)

ok... saw something wierd today...
Spotted a light blue 2-door Peugeot 207 on the Western Experss Highway in Bombay.
Wierd part is that it had a black-on-white MH-46 registration.
Most likely registered as an import.
Somebody surely couldn't wait to get their hands on a Peugeot.
EDIT: Or could've been imported by the company itself, to ferry their officials

Peugeot is re-thinking its India investment
(facing severe problems back home)

Looks like they will go slow on the Gujarat plant (probably delay it by a year) and start with a less costly option (something like CBU and only few dealerships in Metros).

"The group is currently evaluating the scheduling of the project, which may lead to some adjustments to the schedule as it currently stands," said Jonathan Goodman, director relations presse, PSA Peugeot Citroen.
A consultant working closely with the French auto major added that the carmaker is working out strategies for "frugal spending" on the India project. "The company is re-engineering the project so that every penny put into the project brings value," said the consultant.
