The Mahindra XUV500 Thread

M&M has today christened its global SUV as the 'XUV 500'. They expect to launch it in the domestic and South African market by December '11. Later, they plan to launch it in European, African, Australian and Latin American markets. The company plans to use SSangyong's (recent acquisition) global distribution network to tap these markets.
M&M says the "starting price" of the XUV 500 would be between Rs. 12L-20L (could the range be any larger?). Gives one the impression that they are targeting the premium SUV range (Fortuner, Captiva, Outlander, Santa Fe, etc.) but with a VFM proposition.
The XUV 500 is apparently an entirely new platform developed with monocoque construction and a transverse engine layout. Expect many more variants from this platform in the coming years. By the way, the platform has been indigenously designed and developed in their Chennai R&D facility. Respect.
Hopes this turns out to be a game-changer like the Scorpio.

About the vehicle itself,
Like the attempt at contemprary styling. But a few sore points would be,
Side View Mirrors (Look out of place)
Stance is a bit too squat. Width at the top seems 75% of the bottom (Could be an optical illusion)

At a multi car point:
Prospect: Can I have a TD for ex-uu-woo
Salesman: What?
Prospect: Never mind Can I have a TD for Tata Sumo
I think XUV was to create a SUV-MUV kind of a feel! but why 500?

Well, thats where you are wrong... It is not 500 (five hundred) but 5oo (five double oh)...
Double oh for the 'oopmh' (whatever that is supposed to mean)...
PS: Now don't ask 'why the 5?' . No one knows that yet

So, if that vehicle was the XUV5OO (im pretty sure it was) then you can be sure of two things:
- it handles well
- and it goes fast
