Did the aforesaid trip on Saturday. Unfortunately I have issue with my PC where USB drive is acting funny hence no pics to liven the matter up. I shall have the pics uploaded soon.
Started the trip early Saturday. Got up at 4 and I was out of the house by 5.15. By the time I touched Panvel it was 6.30. Had a cuppa before starting off towards NH 17. The weather was fabulous. Roads were inviting barring couple of sections before Kashedi where road repairs are going on. Going up on this ghat you do have a few bad sections too. But once on top of the ghat and going towards Khed the road is butter smooth. I ended up doing this section thrice and Parshuram twice both ghats going up and down and enjoying the twisties. Couldnt get enough of them actually. The trip was majorly eventless. A few highlights explained below
1) You dont need to waste your time at Chiplun (especially Hotel Abhishek with their arrogant staff) especially if you intend to take the route that I did. Found out one cozy little place "Hotel Leela" (leave the Kempinski out
Super Desclaimer: I tried this place by taking a chance. You have a very high chance next time you go the taste may not be upto the mark. I have many examples to support this as with roadside food tends to change on almost daily basis. But I had a pleasant experience hope whenever you decide to go there the cook is in good mood
2) Saw two accidents one of them I caught on camera (the aftermath) as it happened right infront of me which was not a serious one. The other one I was chased away by local cops and found my liking to camera on someone else's death not very funny (I second that too but was overenthusiastic to click pics and ended up annoying those locals). The guy got creamed between a tractor coming from wrong side and truck in left lane. The body was already off the road and in the ambulance but the blood and the gore was visible on the road. It was sickening. Had to stop for a few minutes after going past this mayhem to recollect my disturbed psychie.
3) As I stopped at Khambatki tunnel I was approached by a guy riding a Bajaj Disco and wants to attempt SS certification. He was testing out his abilities by taking 500kms at a time. Wanted to know all about this certification and was asking me for information. I directed him to our motoroids forum. Hope he gets the required info.
4) Its a horrible idea to ride your bike in the night on NH4 past Pune. Practically you have to slow down on occassions to a speed of 40 kmph to see whats infront of you. HID is needed. The next priority would be to have HIDs on to ensure safety. The present lights on CBR 250 are just abysmal.
Total KMs done 653 (as per google maps. Forgot to reset the trip meter)
Bike-CBR 250R
Top whack under treacherous headwind-134 kmph
Pending-Pics and link. Hope to have it resolved soon and uploaded.
