Somethings aren't in your control, went through that stretch at night, it was clean, some truck went by with Sand and dropped some at the corner :(

The only problem I have with the Duke is that i hit the Rev Limiter so freaking often that it worries me that I doing damage to the engine. Every time I did some spirited riding on the Duke I hit the limiter at least once a day. On the last ride to Koyna in the Kashedi ghat itself I hit it 4-5 times. Thats the problem with such refined machines, they dont vibrate (and let all hell and plastic parts) loose and tell you that you are over-doing things. :P.

On a serious note I hope I am not damaging the engine. Of course all the while I am trying to shift before hitting the limiter.

I think its fine...a limiter is definitely a stop sign before the landmine starts ;) And KTMs are made to take all the thrashing.

Honestly, if you are hitting the rev limiter in every gear, you are doing it wrong, I don't recall doing so often even on the 5th gear except when I am really traveling like more than 50 kms in  city during some good highways :P

P.S - Ohh! By the way, the Rev Limiter is made to save the engine, but if you Hit it you are loosing on your momentum, so try to power-shift at half clutch if you are always racing :P

Thanks L.P. I don't hit the rev limiter in all the gears just once in a while. I try to shift ASAP but sometimes I get carried away. Anyways I am being careful now.

The company recommends 20w50 which is available only on the 7100. Also, the 7100 is an approved engine oil for the Duke by the company.
Although both would be good, I'd personally stick to the recommended grade/oil within the warranty period.

I did wait for 1k kms, as recommended in the owners manual.
I, personally, am a bit skeptical about changing to fully synthetic oil before the first service, although some say that it should not be a problem with the newer engines.
That said, I'm not even sure which oil the bike comes with from the factory.

Found something interesting while going through KTM's 2011 Annual Report :gossip: (don't ask me why!)

on pg. 24
In business year 2011 we started or completed the following R&D projects:
...
  • Development of a new motorcycle platform with 375cc in cooperation with Bajaj Auto Ltd.
  • Development of 2 further vehicle platforms in cooperation with Bajaj Auto Ltd.
  • Development of a new street model range
  • Concept development of a new 2-cylinder engine platform in cooperation with Bajaj Auto Ltd.
...
I like 'em Naked.
