@Arnob: What you are referring to is the format of a TSD rally. Adventure category in Raid (and only 4 wheelers are allowed). In TSD/Adventure - one rides/drives with the normal traffic and isn't told about the TC points & also is not allowed to use GPS.

In Xtreme, the traffic is cleared in the competitive stages and the average speed given is much higher than TSD/Adventure. Basically one(unless super skilled) doesn't get any moment to relax in the competitive stage of Xtreme, whereas I have seen people crawling in the Adventure's competitive stage, on a empty section of road(to maintain the average speed & not sure if TC is around the corner).

@Deepak: The one with least amount of penalty is the one who wins.

Why not do something like the "hare and tortoise story". Just whizz, set up your alarm clock- take a mast nap, and then start again.
LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR TRAFFIC

A small bunch of my biking memories

In Xtreme category, you will not get time to even drink a sip of water (by stopping the bike), forget about taking a nap, if you want to remain in rally.
To give an example, in Raid last year, the time given for a competitive stage on Manali - Leh section, between Darcha and Whisky Nala was 100min's for 126.5kms. This includes climbing up and coming down two mountain passes with an average speed of around 76km/hr.

Whereas in TSD/Adventure, while the average speeds are low but you don't know where the next TC is located. So, what if you are wizzing so that you can take a nap later & there is a TC. You will be in big trouble (penalty per se). :)

Edit: To add, just in case I sounded as if in Adventure the speeds are as slow as general moving traffic. It's not like that and while some stages might be on normal roads, they do have competitive stages in some tough terrain as well. :)
Take an example, in Mughal rally this year, the Adventure did the same route as Xtreme. In fact, Adventure on 2nd day did ~650km's in a day between Jammu and Srinagar. Whereas Xtreme did around 400 or so.
