Bentley Unveils All-New Continental GT: Plug-in Hybrid Power Meets Timeless Elegance

Luxury carmaker Bentley has unveiled the highly anticipated fourth generation of its iconic Continental GT and its open-air sibling, the GTC. While retaining the instantly recognizable silhouette of the Continental, this new iteration boasts a significant powertrain upgrade and a host of technological advancements.

Hybrid Power for Unparalleled Performance

The most striking change lies under the hood. The legendary W12 engine, a mainstay of the Continental GT since its 2003 debut, is replaced by a state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid V8 powertrain. This new system combines a familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 600 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque with a powerful electric motor integrated into the gearbox. The electric motor contributes an additional 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, resulting in a staggering combined output of 782 horsepower – a 100 horsepower leap over the W12. Torque figures also receive a boost, reaching a phenomenal 1,000 Nm.

This potent powertrain takes the new Continental GT from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.2 seconds and a blistering 6.9 seconds to reach 160 km/h. The top speed sits comfortably at 335 km/h. Additionally, the hybrid system enables an impressive pure electric driving range of 80 km, making it ideal for short, emissions-free journeys.

Subtle Design Evolution

While the overall silhouette remains unmistakably Continental GT, Bentley has incorporated some subtle yet impactful design changes. The most noticeable difference comes at the front, where the iconic twin headlights are replaced by singular oval units with a distinctive “eyelash” LED daytime running light reminiscent of the Bentley Batur. The rear end receives a refresh with updated exhaust pipes, a redesigned boot lid, and new taillights. The signature Bentley design language remains, characterized by clean lines and a timeless elegance.

Technology and Luxurious Interior

The cabin of the new Continental GT offers a significant upgrade over its predecessor without sacrificing the brand’s renowned craftsmanship. While maintaining the exquisite materials and meticulous attention to detail, the interior embraces the latest technology. The centerpiece is the Bentley Rotating Display, complemented by a 12.3-inch touchscreen featuring wireless connectivity and over-the-air updates. The infotainment system boasts integrated apps like Spotify and seamless wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Connectivity extends further with features like pre-cooling or heating the cabin and seats remotely.

Expected Arrival

The new Bentley Continental GT is expected to arrive in India later this year, with an estimated price tag of around Rs 6 crore, offering a compelling blend of breathtaking performance, cutting-edge technology, and unparalleled luxury.
