BMW F 450 GS will be launched soon, spotted testing

Quick Overview

  • BMW F 450 GS test mule spotted in India, hinting at imminent launch
  • Shares engine with TVS Apache RTR 450 GP racer
  • Positioned below the F 750 GS in BMW’s adventure lineup

BMW Motorrad’s latest test mule has been caught on Indian roads, and it’s not just any motorcycle. The much-anticipated BMW F 450 GS — the newest baby in the GS family — has been spotted testing in India. Slated to become the brand’s most accessible ADV after the G 310 GS, this model is being developed in partnership with TVS and looks ready to roll soon.

Spotted with minimal camouflage, the F 450 GS appears production-ready. The test unit featured a tall stance, beak-like front fender, and upright ergonomics — all textbook GS traits. It also wore wire-spoke wheels, dual-purpose tyres, and a long-travel suspension setup, indicating a clear focus on off-road capability.

Shared Heart, Different Tune

While BMW hasn’t confirmed technical specs, it’s widely expected that the F 450 GS will use the same 452cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine found in the TVS Apache RTR 450 GP. On the TVS race bike, this motor produces around 60 bhp — but expect BMW to retune it for adventure touring, with more usable low- and mid-range torque.

The engine will likely be paired with a 6-speed gearbox, and BMW might offer electronic aids such as ride modes, ABS with off-road settings, and possibly traction control to keep things in check.

Positioning and Rivals

Once launched, the BMW F 450 GS will sit between the G 310 GS and the F 750 GS. It’s expected to take on the likes of the KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, and the upcoming Hero Xpulse 400. With BMW’s global GS branding and premium approach, pricing will likely fall somewhere in the ₹3.5–₹4.2 lakh range (ex-showroom).

Final Thoughts

The F 450 GS might just be the middleweight ADV India didn’t know it needed. Light enough for trails, powerful enough for highways, and backed by that GS legacy — it’s shaping up to be a spicy blend. Now if only it comes with panniers that double as chai cup holders, we’ll really be in business.
