Mercedes-Benz Goes Electric: EQA Arrives in India on July 8th as New Entry-Level EV

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio with the highly anticipated arrival of the EQA on July 8th. This marks the first of three planned EV launches for the brand in India, signifying their commitment to the growing electric mobility market.

The EQA: A Compact SUV with a Big Range

The EQA will be the new entry-level EV for Mercedes-Benz in India, positioned below the EQB. This electric SUV boasts a design that echoes its larger siblings, offering a sleek and sophisticated aesthetic.

More importantly, the EQA promises an impressive driving range exceeding 500 km, ideal for those seeking an electric vehicle with long-distance capabilities.

The Facelifted EQA Makes its Way to India

The Indian market will receive the facelifted version of the EQA, which debuted globally in 2021 and received an update in 2023.

The EQA’s exterior features a distinctive black panel grille with a prominent star-pattern LED light bar, lending it a futuristic look. Dual-tone bumpers and stylish multi-spoke alloy wheels enhance its sporty character. Customers can also opt for a set of 19-inch AMG alloy wheels for an even more aggressive stance. The rear boasts a sleek connected tail light bar, similar to the larger EQB SUV.

Power, Performance, and Efficiency

Among the various global trims, India will welcome the EQA 250+. This variant is equipped with a 70.5 kWh battery, delivering a driving range of up to 560 km (WLTP). The powerful electric motor generates 190 PS and 385 Nm of torque, accelerating the EQA from 0 to 100 km/h in a brisk 8.6 seconds. Additionally, Mercedes claims that using a 100 kW DC fast charger can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in just 35 minutes.

A Luxurious and Tech-Packed Cabin

The EQA’s interior reflects the brand’s commitment to luxury and technology. Anticipate features like:

  • AMG floor mats and aluminum trim for a sporty feel.
  • Supportive sports seats with heating functionality.
  • Illuminated door sills with “EQA” lettering.
  • Galvanized paddle shifters and stylish pedals.
  • A seat comfort package with lumbar support and multi-function leather steering wheel.
  • Automatic climate control and ambient lighting for added comfort.
  • A parking package with a reverse camera for enhanced safety.
  • The latest MBUX infotainment system with a user-friendly interface.
  • A wireless charging pad for smartphones.
  • A premium Burmester sound system for immersive audio experiences.

Competitive Market Entry

The Mercedes-Benz EQA is expected to be priced at around Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom) when it launches in India. This positions it to compete with established players like the BMW iX1, Kia EV6, and Volvo XC40 Recharge in the burgeoning Indian luxury EV segment.

The arrival of the EQA marks a significant step for Mercedes-Benz in India’s electric vehicle landscape. With its blend of luxury, performance, and impressive range, the EQA is poised to attract discerning buyers seeking a premium electric driving experience.
