Renault Duster Returns to India with Big Plans: 7-Seater Bigster Spied Testing

Renault is making a double play in the Indian car market. While the familiar Duster readies for its return, a bigger, bolder 7-seater sibling – the Bigster – has been spotted undergoing camouflage testing in Spain.

The Duster Makes a Grand Reappearance

The Duster, first launched in India in 2013, is credited with pioneering the compact SUV segment. Now, in its new generation, it’s poised to reclaim its place in the market. The leaked images showcase a muscular design with a longer silhouette to accommodate the third row. Practical features like roof rails, a prominent rear spoiler, and a shark-fin antenna enhance its appeal.

Bigster: The bigger Duster

The Bigster, rumored to be the production version of a previously showcased concept car, takes the Duster’s formula and expands upon it. Spy shots reveal a robust design with squared-off wheel arches and pillar-mounted rear door handles. The taillights sport an inverted C-shaped LED design, complementing the overall bold look.

Shared Cabin, Packed with Features

While the silhouettes differ, the interiors of the Duster and Bigster seem to share a common theme. The leaked images hint at a modern cabin featuring a prominent 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, Type-C charging ports, and an automatic climate control panel. Feature expectations include auto-dimming IRVM, a 360-degree camera, and an ADAS suite, although official confirmation is pending.

Engine Options and Rivals

The India-spec Duster is expected to offer a choice between a 1.6-liter petrol-hybrid and a 1.2-liter petrol-hybrid engine, paired with both manual and automatic transmission options. The return of AWD (All-Wheel Drive) remains to be seen.

Launch Timeline and Competition

The new-generation Duster, expected to arrive in the second half of 2025, will sport the Renault badge upon launch. It will face stiff competition from established players like the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector.

While the Duster readies for its Indian return, the Bigster is expected to make its global debut later in 2025. This strategic double dose from Renault promises to shake up the Indian SUV market, offering both familiar comfort and exciting new possibilities for adventure-hungry drivers.
